17 inch LCD monitor for less than $100

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Hanns-G HU-171DI was going through the thousands of junk mails that all the TV and tech industry people seem to think I want, since I run TV and tech industry blogs, and happened to come across this deal I thought was worth sharing with Hot TV News readers ...

Until November 25th, you can get a Hanns-G HU-171D 17" Digital/Analog LCD Monitor for $99.99 at Office Depot.

The in-store and online price is $179.99, but there is an $80.00 mail-in rebate that brings the price of this monitor under $100. An amazing price for any LCD monitor, and in time for a Christmas gift for that loved one with the old 15-inch VGA monitor!!

Now before leading my readers astray, I did do my homework, and the Hanns G HU-171D seemed to get some very decent customer reviews. The general opinion is that it is a very well-built monitor for the price paid, and that most buyers would buy again or recommend this LCD monitor to friends.

The Hanns-G HU-171D 17-inch LCD monitor comes in a black cabinet finish, and has the following features:
Dual digital and analog inputs, and built-in speakers

* SXGA 17" screen lets you see more. The 17" Hanns-G HU-171D LCD monitor lets you see all your applications easily. Viewable image size is a full 17" diagonal, and SXGA (1280 x 1024) native resolution and 0.264mm pixel pitch provide richly detailed images.

* Fast 12ms response time for smooth motion video. At 12 milliseconds, the fast pixel response time provides sharp, clear full-motion video.

* 270 cd/m2 brightness and 500:1 contrast ratio deliver rich, brilliant images and graphics. The monitor's brightness level is suited for use in even brightly lit rooms. The 500:1 contrast ratio gives rich, vibrant colors, with blacker blacks.

* Dual analog/digital inputs provide choice of connectivity. Digital (DVI-D) connection offers the best signal quality, with no conversions to/from analog format. Analog RGB connectivity is also provided, for broad compatibility with PC video cards. DVI and VGA cables are included.

* Built-in stereo speakers provide audio. Speakers housed in the monitor bezel are convenient and save space. Each is rated at 1 watt.

* Flat panel design saves space. Like most LCDs, the HU-171D has a small footprint compared with comparable CRT monitors. Including the base, the monitor depth is just over 7". Overall dimensions are 15 3/5"H x 15 9/10"W x 7 1/10"D, with a net weight of 9.7 lbs. VESA wall-mounting offers even greater space savings. Maximum power consumption is only 42 watts. EPA Energy Star certified.

* Backed by the manufacturer's 3-year limited warranty. Covers parts and labor.

I am currently building a Ubuntu Linux PC for my mother (Linux = no spyware or viruses), so I think I am going to grab her this LCD monitor. The built-in speakers are a real plus, as she lives in a fairly small apartment, and like those of many older folk, is quite cluttered with various knick knacks and articles she has had opportune to collect in the past couple centuries. LOL! No, in all seriousness, I love my mother, and I hope with her new Hanns-G HU-171D 17-inch LCD monitor she will love me even more!

Happy Shopping!
