JVC unveils 110-inch rear projection TV

Friday, October 06, 2006

JVC unveiled recently the prototype of the largest rear projection TV. It has a 110-inch screen size and the Japanese company has not yet announced when it will be commercially available. This means that it’s really too early to start saving for having the privilege to own the largest rear projection TV but the prototype certainly looks impressive.

The screen dimensions are 243.5x137 cm and the TV has a diagonal of 280 cm. The display features the JVC proprietary technology named D-ILA that allows the watcher to fully take advantage of high quality signal inputs. This innovative tech permits JVC’s LCDs to avoid negative effects like seeing a grid of pixels and the spacing between the pixels.

The rear projection TV features the 1920x1080p full HD resolution and thanks to a high aperture ratio of over the 90 percent and the 2 megapixel native resolution guarantees to the viewer a very smooth and clear image. The declared native contrast is a whopping 10,000:1. Compared to the current most awarded rear projection TV, the JVC’s HD-70ZR7U model, the prototype is around 15 percent brighter.

JVC also thought about the problems associated with such a big display and design the prototype in a way that dissipates the heat via the sides. This will enable the display owner to just place it flush against a wall or mount it on the wall. Speaking of design goals JVC also tried to reduce as much as possible the power consumption and they were successful (compared to other displays) since the prototype only consumes 220 W.
