New 82 inch LCD Flat Panel TV to hit US Market

Makers of new television sets have recently been plagued with extremely low profits and losses, falling sales and an outpouring of competition. Given this information, it is hard to believe that these television makers would take a step back and not wish to make a presence in the United States Market. This is definitely not the case for the companies of GE and Honeywell.


General Electric has just recently embarked on a joint venture with the Taiwanese company Tatung. Tatung focuses on the building of appliances, monitors for computers and HDTVs. The company that is being formed from the two will be called GDT and stands for General Displays and Technologies. The televisions that are being produced for the GE line will go into production sometime at the end of April.


Honeywell has also made a connection with a Taiwanese Company that they are going to utilize to design, sell and even market their Honeywell HDTVs. A line of LCD HD television sets ranging in screen size form 19 inches to 82 inches is getting ready to be produced. And no, you didn't read that incorrectly, Honeywell will be producing a LCD Full HD TV with an 82 inch screen. The company that Honeywell is working with is SOYO, based in Taiwan.


Honeywell's Director of Marketing, Ed O'Brien recently released details regarding Honeywell's jump into the HDTV world. Apparently there will be four very different styles of HDTV's, brought out by Honeywell. One is a LE series television, listed as top of the line. The sizes of the screens in this line vary considerably There will be a 47-inch, 57-inch, 65-inch, 70-inch and an 82-inch screen for consumers to chose from. All of the LE models will contain two component video inputs, one VGA input, a composite and S-Video jack, a 120 HZ refresh rate, 3 HDMI inputs, 178 degree viewing angle and Full 1080p HD. These television sets will feature picture in picture, stereo speakers and SRS audio including a 2x10 watt amplifier and POP/(POP).


Honeywell's 82-inch television, model number MT-HWGWT8218AM is listed as having a brightness rating of 600 cd/m2, 120,000 dynamic contrast ratio, 16.7 million display colors and weighs in at a whopping 303 pounds.


This is just one of the many surprises that Honeywell and of course, LG, have up their sleeves for the new television lines they will soon be presenting to consumers. Pricing has not been set for all of the new models, but is said to be released in the near future.



There will be two different sizes of screens that will be offered on the ML series, a 32-inch screen and a 42-inch screen. The 42-inch television, model number MT-HWJCT42B3AB will have 60 Hz Full HD, LCD 1080p having a contrast ratio of 50,000:1. It will also have 2 video component inputs and a S-video and composite video jack, 8 bit color, 5HDMI inputs and of course, VGA.


The 32-inch screen size television, model number MT-HWJCT32B4AB will have a 8 bit color panel and include all of the 42” screen models inputs, except it will not have a 5 HDMI, but instead a 2HDMI. The 6 foot HDMI cable will be included with this set, as well as with all Honeywell HDTVs. Both television sets were available on the Home Shopping Network, but did not last long, quickly selling out all of the available line, with prices listed for these televisions fell between $499.99 and $799.99. Honeywell's SF Line will consist of a 22-inch HDTV, which will have 1680x1050 resolution 16:10 panel. This line will come with two video component inputs, a VGA composite video jack and have 3 HDMI inputs. While many people are keeping an eye out for this television, no information on either pricing or availability has been released.


O'Brien plans to become fierce competition with the Vizios and other new market entires, by producing better designs for their televisions, better quality control and a warranty that will extend for 5 years. This new 5 year warranty is extremely longer compared to the warranties that are offered by other brands. The warranty covers the entire HDTV for a period of one year and even offers in home service for the televisions with 40-inch screens and those larger. The second and third years of the warranty will cover all of the labor and parts, but excludes the LCD panel. The fourth and fifth year of the warranty covers only the parts, but excludes the panel.


Honeywell will even be supplying a carton to ship the television in, if it needs to be returned to Honeywell.


O'Brien says that Honeywell is planning to sell the HDTVs in warehouse club stores and with both regional and national dealers very soon.
